HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO SKYDIVE?

This one is one of our mostly commonly asked questions. In the United States, you must be 18 years old to make a tandem skydive.

Unfortunately for those who aren’t yet 18 years old, there aren’t any exceptions to this rule – it comes from the United States Parachute Association (USPA) and is followed by every reputable dropzone in the country.

It isn’t just a guideline; it’s a firm requirement that keeps the sport consistent and safe for everyone. When you arrive at the dropzone, you’ll need a valid, government-issued photo ID to prove your age before gearing up.

So why 18? It comes down to safety, equipment standards, and legal responsibility.

All skydiving gear — including tandem harnesses and parachute systems — is designed, tested, and certified for adults.

Manufacturers specify that their equipment should only be used by people 18 and older, and dropzones must follow that rule to stay compliant and insured.

Plus, skydiving involves signing a legal waiver, something minors can’t do on their own.

But, if you’ve already had that all-important 18th birthday, then lets get in the air!
